Rockstar weekend!

We had a busy, but fun weekend! Saturday, we left for Grammy and Pop's house. We were headed to Arlington to celebrate Pat and Kasey's upcoming wedding! We were fortunate to have a wonderful babysitter for Evan. Patty Wood, who is celebrating her birthday today, woo hoo!!, was nice enough to watch Evan for us. Patty didn't seem too traumatized, so I think it all went well! Meanwhile, Mark and I were partying like rock stars, at the couple's rock star shower. It was a wonderful evening. Mark and I both had the chance to visit with friends we haven't seen in a while and we also played some much loved beer pong.

Cue dreamy music and hazy flashback: On our honeymoon, we played in a beer pong tournament (claimed 2nd) and since then beer pong has been very dear to my heart. Anyway, we killed it at beer pong. Mark was able to knock down most of the cups and I gained the nickname "Beer pong closer!" I won every game for us. Of course, it was a joint effort. We won all three games we played!

All in all, the shower could not have been better. Thanks to all the wonderful hostesses (Sally!). Time with friends is so priceless! Time with friends, without baby...super priceless!!

We had a rough Sunday morning. Evan has been teething. He has been a super easy teether up to this point, but today for whatever reason, was painful for him. He was happy as long as he was a) sleeping or b) chewing on something. We slowly ran out of things for him to chew on and he got mad. We are hoping that tooth decides to poke through soon.

It is crazy that soon enough he will have his two front teeth. Evan's teething was so bad today, guess what he found to munch on. Oh yes! His toes. I didn't even think his fat body would contort that way, but sure enough, his feet can fit in his mouth. Oh the many talents of my son!

Tonight, Evan tried chicken. Hmm.. I have to say I don't think he liked it. He would eat it, but made terrible faces. Next time I might try mixing it with a veggie to see if that helps. I can say that at least the dogs loved the food. The second I opened the gerber can (you have to be crazy to think I would make meat baby food!), the dogs came running. No wonder Evan didn't like it...

Well, I hope to update again soon with some rock star pictures. I had a pretty crazy outfit, so I will share soon!

What's new?

Nothing. Evan and I have just been hanging out at home. We have been doing a lot of tummy time lately to work on crawling. He is not ready to crawl (thank goodness!), but I don't think he is too far away from trying! I am happy to report he can pretty much sit alone. He will occasionally fall backwards, but it is few and far between. Also, on a very happy note, he goes to sleep on his own now. We just put him in his crib, nap or nighttime, and he is out. Sure, sometimes it take 5, 10, 15 minutes for him to put himself to sleep. BUT, the fact of the matter is, HE is putting himself to sleep! Man, it makes life so much easier.

Tonight, Evan tried Pears! He loved them! I guess fruit taste a lot better than veggies because Evan LOVES all fruit, but does not seem to like many veggies. The veggies he likes give him gas! We have a lot of fun things to try in the future, so hopefully we can expand Evan's taste buds!

6 months!

Yesterday was Evan's half year birthday! Can you believe it?? He is just growing up so fast! Mark and I are just so blessed to have such a healthy, happy baby!

We had Evan's 6 months well visit. He is just growing like a weed. I am very happy to report that he is now in the 20th percentile for height...up from 9 percent, so way to go Evan. He is 25.5 inches long, finally two feet tall! He is up from 15 pounds to 17 pounds 8 ounces. He is in the 50th percentile now, so thankfully he is becoming more proportionate. Now, onto his head. Poor Evan. He has a flat head. The doctor said there is plenty of time for it to correct itself, so not to worry. His head is huge, 17.25 inches. I guess that is why a random man at the grocery store called him a melon head :)

Well, Evan had to get 3 shots once again. It doesn't get any easier. I have cried every visit. Just to see the pain on his face.... This visit wasn't as bad as the last, but he still wailed for a while. Once we got to the car, he was happy again. Then, once he was in the car, he was asleep. Since he was asleep, we went to Chuy's for lunch. We being my sister, mom, Evan, and me! It was a delicious lunch! After lunch, we came home for a little Evan play time, and then Mom and Marilyn left. A fun, but short day!

After bath time...chewing on a blanket!
Look. My feet!

Family, friends, and TMI!

We had a great weekend in Longview! We left Friday night and had a very easy ride to Longview. Evan slept the whole way. Our little champ.

Saturday, Evan got a chance to swim in the pool for the second time. He had a great time standing on the sun deck and trying to swim. He probably stayed out at the pool for thirty minutes, which is a long time for him. I was so afraid he was going to get sun burned even after being slathered with sun screen.

That night, we went to Ashley's wedding shower. It was great to visit with old high school friends and let them meet Evan. Surprisingly, he stayed awake until about nine and was a little trooper. He was up at 1am, but I know that night it was because of his teeth. I gave him some Tylenol and he was out until about 8am which was the most sleep I had gotten in a long time. We had an eventful night on Saturday. We were getting ready for Ashley's shower and Mark was opening the wine bottles. Well, on his last bottle, as he was opening it, it shattered against the counter. Glass, wine, and blood went everywhere. Mark's hand was in bad shape. All the women around freaked out. Blood was gushing from his hand. Mark made it to our bathroom, while the rest of us were searching for the doctor at the party. We were afraid that Mark was going to need stitches. Thirty minutes later, a lot of paper towels, some super band-aids, and NO stitches, Mark was better, well, at least not bleeding. Thankfully, Dr. Baker was there to get Mark fixed up. He gave Mark the prescription of holding a cold beer in his hand all night :) Mark has some pretty significant battle wounds to show for it!

Sunday, we went out with my mom for some light shopping before heading home. Evan got some great clothes for 18 months, whenever he decides to fit into that size. Right now, he is comfortably in a size 12 months.

On our ride home, Evan was a little fussy. I knew he was hungry, so I hopped in the back and gave him some sweet potatoes. He seemed pretty happy, but I wanted to try his new teething biscuits, so I gave him one while I was in the back seat. It went great, at first. Then he was sucking so hard, half of the biscuit broke off in his mouth. I freaked out. I was afraid his was going to choke. What do I do? I fished the biscuit out of his mouth. In the process, I scratched the back of his throat with my nail. This made Evan really mad. He was screaming! I didn't really know what to do, so I had Mark pull over. We pulled over at a gas station and I got Evan out of his car seat. I tried to soothe his throat with some milk, and that seemed to make him happy again. After that I changed his diaper since with left Longview in a hurry. He had a large poopy diaper. I got the diaper off, but as I was setting in on the floor of the car the solidish poo flung out of the diaper and landed on my leg! It hit my leg, then landing on the car door and finally the parking lot! GROSS! It was solid enough to scoop it all onto the parking lot, but gross enough that I was not happy to have it land on me. We had a very eventful thirty minutes. Just a word to the other moms. I freaked out for nothing. Once I fished the biscuit out of Evan's mouth I felt it. It was smooth and softer than most baby food I give him. He would have been fine had I not had a melt down!!

We got some exciting news once we got home. As Mark was picking up Troy dog, we got the classic, "Well, on the first day of camp, Troy threw up." At this point millions of things race through his mind. He has already thrown up the racy underwear, socks, rope, miscellaneous toys, so we weren't really sure what it was this time. Our first thought was something of Evan's. Nope. For the first time, Troy threw up an animal. It was a bird. They said everyone working had to come look because they weren't sure what it was. At first they thought it was chicken breast, but after closer inspection there were feathers in the second batch. Sure enough, Troy some how caught a bird. And, is it sad that I am actually kind of proud of him?

Finally, tonight Evan tried peaches. He LOVED them. He did not want to stop eating them. His mouth was wide open, waiting for me each time to feed him. He actually cried when I wouldn't give him anymore. I think he might have a new favorite food!

Loving his outfit!!

I made some peas this morning, so I decided Evan could try them tonight. He loved his peas!! He was sad when they were gone. He will definitely be having more peas.

A few nights away...

Thursday night, I spent the night out of the house, well at least for a little while. I was home to put Evan to bed, but I left about 8 to go stand in line to watch Harry Potter at midnight. I couldn't miss this because it was going to be the last time Mandy and I could share the fun of Harry Potter madness! We had a great night. We met quite a few characters while waiting to get in the theatre. This helped pass the time. We got into the theatre and had a chance to get some food and drinks. Soon enough it was midnight and time for the movie. It was GREAT!! My favorite by far. Now I just have to find a time to go back and see it in 3d! I don't think Mark will let me get away with that..... I got home a little before 3am. Thankfully Evan slept until 5am, so I got a solid 2 hours of sleep. I was VERY tired when he got up, but he was a great boy and napped about 6:30 and slept for almost 2 hours. This was one of the only days that I slept EVERY nap that he did. Once 4pm came around I was feeling human again.

Saturday, Grammy and Pops came over to watch Evan for the night. Mark and I were going out to the Gaylord to have a nice dinner and get a night away. This was my first time to stay at the Gaylord and I really enjoyed it. Sure it was a little overpriced, but what resort isn't. I did make the mistake of telling Mark to book an outside facing room. I thought it would be romantic to look at the lake, but I was wrong. Pictures will explain it. So if you go to the Gaylord, get a view of the atrium. Plus they have a balcony! Anyway, we had champagne and cake balls waiting for us when we arrived. It was a great way to start the evening. After we enjoyed our cake balls, we went to the Steak House to have dinner. It was delicious! Probably, the juiciest, seared steak I have ever had. It was like eating butter, but, of course, it was steak. Makes me hungry just to think about it! Mark and I were both in a food coma after dinner, but since it was our one night away we had to at least try to keep going. We grabbed a glass of wine and walked around the resort. There was a lot to look at. We ended up at Texas Station, a sports bar. It was a really neat place. We sat in these padded, reclining chairs to watch the Rangers game on the largest screen ever, but after about 10 minutes we had to leave because someone was falling asleep. That someone was me! We went back to the room around 11 and I am happy to say I slept from 11-8, mostly uninterrupted. I woke up once worried about Evan. I couldn't find the monitor. I then realized that I wasn't even at home. My inner alarm woke me up about 5, but I made myself try and sleep even though I was awake.

All in all, I was pretty proud of myself for my first night away from Evan. I did cry when we left. I even cried a few times while we were at the hotel, but I never cried hard. Just a little tear here and there. I wasn't even sad. I knew he was in good hands, but all those crazy little scenarios go through your head. I am VERY glad that Mark and I got the chance to get away just the two of us. It was a nice change of pace. We had an excellent anniversary thanks to both our parents!

Green Beans and a what?!?!

Tuesday night we went to celebrate "Aunt" Mandy's birthday! Evan was not a happy camper because he had been going nonstop all day and just wanted to go to bed. Though he was a doll when he finally got to meet Michelle, Mandy's mom! When we got home, Evan crashed and slept until 5!

Wednesday we woke up to a fun discovery! Evan is getting a tooth! Crazy! You can't really see anything but two little bumps, but you can feel the sharpness on his gum. The craziest part is he hasn't acted any different. Had he not been biting my fingers, I would have had no idea. Later that night, Evan tried green beans! He did not like them. I didn't like them either, so I am wondering if I just made a bad batch. We will try again tonight, but I am pretty sure we will have the same result.

I know you can't see it, but here it is anyway:

Happy birthday, Mandy!!
